400 + natives back from Afghanistan so far- Dhami

A total of 56 natives of Uttarakhand who returned safely from Afghanistan were welcomed by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his camp office here on Tuesday evening. Dhami said that the government had been making consistent efforts to ensure the safe return of Uttarakhand natives stranded in that war-torn country. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs minister S Jaishankar and national security advisor Ajit Doval while thanking them for their cooperation. Dhami averred that due to PM Modi’s strong leadership, the people of India are safe in various foreign nations.

Attempts to safely bring back remaining people stranded in Afghanistan will continue, he added.He said that the state’s resident commissioner in Delhi has also been instructed to make arrangements to send Uttarakhand natives returning to India from Delhi to their homes. More than 400 such people have returned to Uttarakhand so far, he said. The government will also look into the issues of health and self employment of those returning to the state.

Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi said that he has been in contact with families of those still stranded in Afghanistan. The government will provide assistance if any of those who have returned want to start their own enterprise, he added.
