25 arrested for Haldwani riot, 7 illegal guns & 153 bullets recovered

The Nainital police have arrested 25 persons accused of rioting in Haldwani on February 8. The police have also recovered seven firearms and 54 bullets in addition to 99 bullets looted by the accused from the Vanbhulpura police station during the riot.

The Nainital senior superintendent of police Prahlad Narayan Meena informed the media on Sunday that a total of three FIRs were lodged after the rioting, arson, stone pelting and firing on government employees and media persons during the demolition of illegal structures on land encroached upon in the Vanbhulpura area on February 8. The district police formed various teams to identify and nab the culprits.

The police teams checked the footage from CCTV cameras and other evidence. Based on this, they conducted checks in homes in the area which resulted in the arrests of the accused named in the FIRs and others identified by the police. The police also found illegal firearms and bullets from the accused, the SSP said. The police are continuing the investigation and more arrests are likely to be made in the future. All the accused arrested so far are from the Vanbhulpura area.
