Road accidents worse than Covid-19- Dr Sanjay

Road traffic accidents have become an epidemic which is worse than Covid-19. Orthopaedic surgeon and Padma Shri recipient Dr BKS Sanjay said this at a function in Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya as part of the sixth UN Global Road Safety Week.

Dr Sanjay said that the aggressive behaviour of the drivers is common on the roads. He stressed on the importance of various measures to check road traffic accidents. Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Gaurav Sanjay said that about five lakh accidents occur annually in India of which one-fourth to one-third result in fatalities while the remaining victims are afflict by disabilities. The nation is losing almost three to five per cent of its GDP due to accidents according to Union Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari, he added. He also made various suggestions to prevent such mishaps.

After the awareness lecture, the students and faculty members also took a pledge to follow the traffic rules.

The lecture was attended by the university vice chancellor Roop Kishor Shastri, other faculty members and about 300 students.
