The IGU sub-junior/junior feeder tour event began at the FRIMA golf course on Saturday. It is the first time that an Indian Golf Union (IGU) event is being held in Dehradun.

The event is supported by the Uttaranchal Golf Federation, which is affiliated to the Indian Golf Union. Over 80 junior golfers from all over North India, in particular from Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Rajasthan  are competing in the event. Players as young as five years will be competing against each other in five different age categories in a 36 hole stroke-play competition. Ten players from Uttarakhand will be competing for this prestigious IGU event concluding on Sunday.

The tournament was inaugurated by Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) director general AS Rawat in the presence of UGF officiating president Rakesh Shah and others. Rawat said, “It is good to see such considerable participation in this first event conducted by IGU which will go a long way in boosting golf in our state. We will also see encouragement of golf tourism with such initiatives.”
