The Udham Singh Nagar police have busted a counterfeit education certificate and degree racket which provided high-quality forged educational documents of several colleges and universities of the country to people seeking private jobs or wanting to work abroad. The officials of several universities are also allegedly involved with the accused in the racket.

Addressing the media in Rudrapur on Friday, Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manjunath TC said that the police have been conducting a checking campaign regularly in several residential areas. During a checking campaign at Metropolis Colony in Rudrapur on Thursday, the police caught two men- Gaurav Chand and Ajay Kumar, who had set up a whole factory to make high-quality certificates and degrees of several colleges and universities. The police recovered high-end printing machines, laptops and thousands of blank certificates, degrees and other similar documents from universities of cities like Shillong, Ranchi and Jaunpur.

According to the SSP, both accused ran a very systematic racket and never made any certificate or degree for people seeking government jobs or jobs in big reputed firms due to the possibility of getting caught. He said that the accused used to make similar documents as those issued by universities but used to make slight changes in the original email id and print it on the fake documents. “If the recruiter tried to approach them through email to verify the education qualification, the person of the university or college involved in the scam used to revert to them. They charged extra for such tasks. According to the accused, their main customers have been private job seekers and those who give IELTS to go abroad,” said the SSP. He said that the police are investigating the matter to gather more evidence.
