Online evaluation for 9 lakh students of Govt schools

The education department to use Google Platform for uniformity in evaluation

More than nine lakh students of the government schools of Uttarakhand would take the services of a learning and evaluation platform of Google for evaluating their progress. The education department of Uttarakhand has decided that all the students from class III to XII would be evaluated on Google Platform. The director State Council of Education of Research (SCERT) Seema Jaunsari told The Pioneer that the department has adopted an online mode of teaching its students in all parts of the state after the schools were closed in wake of the pandemic of Covid-19. “The teachers have been teaching the students in online mode for the last six to seven months. Now we have decided to evaluate the progress of the students. For uniformity and easy accessibility we have decided to use Google platform for this process. Based on the feedback received from students and teachers we would further streamline the evaluation process,’’ she said.

On the directive of the SCERT, preparation for the online evaluation has started in all 13 District Institutes Education and Training (DIET)  of state and soon the students would be evaluated on Google Platform.

Considering that the huge number of the students are involved and the fact that a large number of students belong to the economically deprived section of society, the task of online teaching and evaluation is very challenging. The problem of network connection in rural and far flung areas and less accessibility to devices like smartphones and computers make the task more daunting. Jaunsari accepted that the task of online teaching and evaluation is difficult “It is very difficult but we have no other option. Our teachers have reached out to the students in an offline manner where the network and accessibility is a problem. We have to find solutions and make best use of available options,’’ she quipped.
