Teelu Rauteli & Anganwadi worker awards presented to 44 women

Indian hockey player and Haridwar resident Vandana Katariya who scored a hat trick in an Olympics match recently has been declared as the ambassador of the state’s Women Empowerment and Child Development department. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made this announcement here at a programme held on Sunday to present the Tilu Rauteli award and Anganwadi worker award to selected personalities. Dhami also announced that from next year, the cash amount with both the awards will be raised to Rs 51,000.

This year a total of 22 women have been given the Tilu Rauteli award while 22 women have been given the Anganwadi worker award. The Tilu Rauteli award comprises Rs 31,000 cash and a citation while the Anganwadi worker award comprises Rs 21,000 cash and a citation.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that women have always played an important role in the movement for the separate state of Uttarakhand and in various other aspects in the state. He said that the state government is undertaking various efforts for women empowerment. Stressing on the importance of good condition of Anganwadi centres, the CM said that these centres play an important role in the development of children in the initial stages. Dhami said that those who achieve big despite limited resources earn a different level of fame. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent his earlier life in normal circumstances but due to his style of functioning, the nation is fast advancing on the path of development. Dhami also recalled his own childhood, using lime solution to write on a slate in school.

Referring to the governmental schemes for women empowerment, he said that the state government wants the women to benefit from these schemes. He spoke about the Mukhyamantri Mahalakshmi Yojana in which kits are provided for pregnant women and newly born girl child.

Woman Empowerment and Child Development minister Rekha Arya recalled the brave exploits of Tilu Rauteli, on whose birth anniversary the state government had felicitated women from various fields and Anganwadi workers. Jumping into the battlefield at the age of 15 years, Rauteli had fought seven battles at a small age. Referring to Anganwadi workers, she said that they had done commendable work during the Covid-19 pandemic. The minister recalled that CM Dhami’s father had donated his land for an Anganwadi centre.
