The number of tourists and tourist vehicles saw a sudden rise in Nainital on Saturday as visitors thronged to spend the weekend in the hill station. After the parking facility in the town got full, the police stopped tourist vehicles at Rusi and Narayannagar bypass from where a shuttle service was provided to ferry the visitors to Nainital. The hotels, lodges, guest houses and dharmshalas in Nainital were reported to be full on Saturday. The number of visitors is expected to increase further on Sunday. While the locals faced the various issues resulting from crowding, those involved in various tourism related businesses made brisk profits.

According to sources, 2,410 people visited the cave garden and 973 tourists used the cable car. The Woodland waterfall on the Nainital-Kaladhungi motor road was visited by 1,120 persons while the Himalayan botanical garden in Narayannagar was visited by 601 persons. Similarly, 2,130 persons visited the Nainital zoo. Due to all accommodations being packed by the evening in Nainital, many tourists had to make way to nearby Pangtu, Khurpatal, Jyolikot, Bhawali, Mukteshwar, Ramgarh and Bhimtal to secure accommodation. The police also had a tough time trying to manage the traffic.
