New Year revellers consume liquor worth Rs 30 cr in U’khand

In latest news from Dehradun, with extending the closing hours of bars, hotels and restaurants and issuing one-day bar license in large numbers during the New Year festivities, the State excise department has earned Rs 30 crore on booze sale.  The State excise officers said that 329 one- day bar licenses had been issued across the State this time from December 20 to 31. The maximum number of such licenses-208- was issued in Dehradun district. The officers further said that in anticipation of massive throng of tourists in the famed tourist spots like Nainital, Mussoorie, Almora and Ranikhet, the department had started preparations ten days before the New Year’s Eve. With the ban on issuance of one-day bar license lifted, the traders in large numbers collected them and the festive liquor trade boomed. With Dehradun topping the list with 208 one-day bar licenses issued on the occasion, the figures for other districts are the following: Nanital 82, Pauri 13, Tehri 10, Almora 8 and Haridwar 5.
