While paying tribute to martyr Nagendra Saklani at the Nagendra Saklani government multipurpose fair on Saturday, the Pratapnagar MLA Vikram Singh Negi attacked the erstwhile Tehri monarchy stating that it’s reign was oppressive. Invoking Saklani’s fierce fight against the oppressive rule of the Tehri monarchy, he said that Saklani had led the movement against the atrocities of the princely state and helped Daulat Ram Kukshal in Kadakot to form Praja Mandal. As the movement had become vigorous with the people’s support, he had been killed in a police encounter, Negi said, adding that his supreme sacrifice had shaken the foundation of the princely state.

Speaking of the importance of fairs in the society, he said that they are part of the culture and as a medium of mutuality and understanding and it should be preserved in the interests of all.

The MLA also spoke of the recruitment scam, saying that it had demoralised the youth across the state. Dwelling on the development of the state, the MLA stressed on self-employment, women empowerment and building of small scale industries. He said that the dream that propelled the movement for a separate state of Uttarakhand should not be allowed to wither away.
