Technology use to be enhanced for tackling disasters

The State authorities are making efforts to make the management system more effective as part of disaster capacity building. Software-based technology will be used for this purpose. The Incident Response System (IRS) will be strengthened, as stated in the past. Suggestions of various stakeholders were taken regarding this at the Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre office here on Thursday. A presentation of technology-based model was also made during the meeting.

Despite various efforts and instructions from the top, assistance is received late by the disaster affected. With the usual methods having proved unsuccessful, latest technology can be used to drastically reduce the response time, claimed the officials.  More help can be sent in much less time to the disaster affected area using the help of GIS and GPS. In case of landslide or flood situation in any area, information about the same will be visible on the “high tech system”. The help of mobile phone application will also be taken for this purpose. Secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha, additional secretary Anand Srivastav and other officials concerned were also present in the meeting.
