Minister lays foundation stone of Cath Lab in GDMC hospital

The Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat laid the foundation stone of the first Cath lab in a government hospital at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital on Thursday. The facility would help in providing treatment of heart diseases free of cost. The Minister has directed the officers of the health department to complete work on the Cath lab at a fast pace so that it could get operational on the occasion of state foundation day (November 9) this year. Speaking on the occasion, Rawat said that the Cath lab would be constructed with a budget of Rs 5 crore. He said that the lab would be extremely beneficial for the heart patients of the State. The minister said that the problem of the shortage of faculty members in the government medical colleges of the state would be solved soon. He informed that the process of recruitment of 339 assistant professors in the medical colleges of the state is in its last phase. He further informed that the state cabinet has taken a decision to recruit nurses on the basis of seniority (year of completing the degree) and soon a government order (GO) for it would be released.  Rawat said that 2600 staff nurses would be recruited in the health services of the state.  The minister claimed that the State has witnessed an improvement in the institutional deliveries. He said that the percentage of institutional deliveries was 68.6 in the year 2015-16 which increased to 83.2 per cent in the year 2019-20. The minister said that efforts are being made to take the figure of institutional deliveries to 100 per cent. The minister said that a separate department of lifestyle diseases would be set up in every medical college of the state and a certificate course on lifestyle diseases would also start in the college.

 The director general (DG) medical education, Ashish Srivastava said that the new posts of paramedical staff are being created in 9the medical colleges and the proposal would be sent to the state administration for this.  He said that a cancer unit would soon get operational in the government medical college Haldwani. The DG informed that the new Operation Theatre and emergency block of GDMC would start functioning within 15 days. The Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) Sunil Uniyal Gama, the Principal of GDMC Dr Ashutosh Sayana, the medical superintendent (MS) of GDMC hospital Dr K C Pant and others were present on the occasion.
