SPIC MACAY holds Lec Dem on Bharatanatyam by Lakshmi Parthasarathy at The Aryan School

SPIC MACAY organised a lecture demonstration of Bharatanatyam by renowned dancer Lakshmi Parthasarathy at The Aryan School under their month-long SPIC MACAY fest. The programme commenced with a salutation to the Goddess Saraswati. Lakshmi began her performance with the Shiva Panchakshara Stotram of Adi Shankaracharya. She then went on to perform a composition of Raja Swati Tirunal in Saveri Raga, which depicted the episode of Hanuman’s devotion and dedication to Lord Rama. She portrayed the scene of Hanuman meeting Sita in Lanka and carrying the Sanjeevani mountain to save Lakshmana’s life. Notably, she is a Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar Awardee (2013).  The piece was choreographed by Chitra Vishwesvaran, who is Lakshmi Parthasarthy’s Guru.

Speaking on the occasion, the principal B Dasgupta said, “The event was a celebration of Indian classical dance and culture and Lakshmi Parthasarthy’s performance was the highlight of the day. Her dedication to her art form and her commitment to preserving Indian classical dance and culture is an inspiration to many.”

Inspired by the beauty and elegance of Bharatanatyam, many of the students present expressed their desire to learn more about this art form.
