The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has asked Aakash and Allen coaching institutes in Dehradun to submit their legal documents to the commission. In relation to this matter, member of SCPCR, Vinod Kaparwan informed that following the direction of SCPCR chairperson Geeta Khanna, the commission conducted an inspection at the coaching centers of Aakash and Allen in Dehradun. He claimed that during the inspection it was discovered that the said institutes were charging arbitrary fees from students.

Additionally, the coaching centres were facilitating loans from banks to parents whose financial situation was unstable. “This violation of rules indicates the presence of a profitable business operating under the guise of education, exploiting children for corporate interests. It was also observed that both institutions lacked necessary medical and fire safety facilities for the students,” he added.

He further informed that the current enrollment at Aakash coaching institute is approximately 1,400 to 1,500 students. Due to the aspects observed during the inspection, the commission has summoned officials of the two institutes and requested them to provide their legal documentation. He stressed the importance of conducting physical verification of institutes and assured that the commission will persistently inspect similar coaching institutes in the coming times.

The commission also decided to take severe measures against any institute to prevent any form of exploitation of children, Kaparwan added.
