The auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya and the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Parasuram are being observed with religious fervour across the country. On the same day, the portals of the Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines are reopening for the pilgrims. As per the tenets of Sanatana Dharma and Indian astrology, the occasion of Akshay Tritiya is invested with immense importance. This is deemed to be a very auspicious occasion on which a good work can be initiated. On this day, Mother Lakhsmi is specially worshiped and people buy gold and golden ornaments as part of the long-continuing tradition.
This year, the birthday of Bhagwan Parasuram is also observed on the day of Akshay Tritiya.
