Excise dept raids house, seizes illicit liquor

In latest news from Uttarakhand, with the State along with the rest of the country gearing up for the Lok Sabha election, the Uttarkashi district excise department has stepped up its operation against smuggling and stockpiling of illegal/illicit liquor. In its latest operation, the department’s team raided a house near a hotel at Gyansu. In course of the raid, hundreds of bottles of illicit liquor were found stacked in 106 sacks kept at the house of the accused identified as Yashveer Singh, resident of Tipri under Dharasu police station limits. The excise officers said that he had stockpiled the illicit liquor in his home for sale and it was found to be highly adulterated with alcohol unfit for human consumption. A case was registered against him under relevant sections of the excise act and he was set to be produced in court, they added.  

Speaking of the raid, the deputy excise inspector Kirti Singh Parmar said they have urged people not to consume such illicit liquor and promptly inform them if such liquor is found being sold.
