Giving a call for issue based elections, the Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi has said that people of Uttarakhand should not get swayed by the rhetoric of the ruling BJP. She said that the people should seek an account of the last ten years of rule of BJP in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. Gandhi said this while addressing public rallies in support of Congress candidates in Ramnagar and Roorkee on Saturday.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi without naming him, Gandhi said those posing as well wishers of Devbhoomi paid no heed when the natural disaster hit the State. She said that the BJP has imposed Agnipath scheme on the youngsters that has snatched away a major source of employment from the youth. She lambasted the BJP government for failing to control rising prices and provide employment. Gandhi added that the people from Uttarakhand are forced to migrate but the government has failed to create local employment opportunities. Launching an attack on PM Modi, Gandhi alleged that the PM has distributed the wealth of the country to some of his industrial friends.  She said, “Before casting the vote you should ask a question to yourself as to what positive change has occurred in your life in the last 10 years. Has it improved or not?”

She said that on coming to power the Congress will withdraw the Agnipath scheme for recruitment in armed forces and will start recruitment in government jobs as per a job calendar. Gandhi added that the Congress government will fill all the 30 lakh government jobs that are vacant and will set up a Rs 5,000 crore fund for youngsters for starting their start-ups. She also promised that the old pension scheme (OPS) will be restored. Gandhi added that the GST imposed by the Modi government on farming equipment will be withdrawn.

The Congress leader said that the ruling party is protecting the accused in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. Terming PM Modi as insensitive, Gandhi said that the PM didn’t spare time to meet the protesting women wrestlers at Jantar Mantar. The PM also had no time for the farmers who protested for months at the borders of Delhi against the three draconian laws. These laws were withdrawn ahead of the Assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh, she said.

Addressing the meeting at Ramnagar the Congress candidate from Garhwal Ganesh Godiyal said that the galaxy of star campaigners of BJP were nowhere to be seen when the natural disasters in Joshimath and Raini had hit the State. The Congress candidate from Almora (SC) constituency, Pradeep Tamta said that people of SC and ST are being neglected in the State. The Congress candidate from Nainital- Udham Singh Nagar constituency Prakash Joshi said that it is a pity that Ajay Bhatt who is BJP candidate from Nainital and is minister  of state for defence in Modi government didn’t utter a single word against Agnipath scheme. The leader of opposition (LoP) Yashpal Arya said that India has become a Vishwa Guru in corruption and hatred.
