Pauri police nabs forest wealth smugglers

The Pauri district police arrested two smugglers on Wednesday when they were trying to transport forest wealth near Kaliyasaur barrier on the Badrinath– Srinagar national highway. The cost of the recovered   forest wealth is estimated at Rs. 140, 98, 809 in the international market. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yashwant Singh Chauhan has announced a cash reward of Rs 5000 cash to the police team. 

The district police on the instructions of SSP had launched a drive against the smuggling of forest wealth. A police team constituted under Circle officer Srinagar Shayam Dutt Nautiyal got information about the movement of the smugglers on Wednesday. The team arrested Ankit Chaudhary (28 years) and Gaurav Kumar (28 years) in Kaliyasaur barrier in the jurisdiction of Srinagar Thana with illegal forest wealth of weighing about 211 KG of Kutki ( rare and endangered medicinal plant)  from a Tata Safari car. The Srinagar police have registered a case against Ankit Chaudhary and Gaurav Kumar under various sections of Indian forest Act 1927.               The arrested are the residents of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh and they have confessed that they were transporting forest wealth from Joshimath (Chamoli) to Delhi.

 The team included SSI   Santosh Panthwal, SI Ajay Prakash Bhatt, SI Ajay kumar and nine other personnel.
