79th anniversary of Quit India- Cong takes out Tiranga Yatra

The Uttarakhand Congress organised a ‘Rashtriya Tiranga Yatra’ in Dehradun on Monday to commemorate the 79th anniversary of Quit India Movement. On the call given by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal, the workers of Congress Sewa Dal took out the Yatra which commenced from Congress Bhawan and culminated at Gandhi Park.

 A programme was organised on the day in the Congress Bhawan on the day which was inaugurated by the former chief minister and head of campaign committee Harish Rawat and leader of opposition (LoP) in Uttarakhand assembly Pritam Singh. The duo garlanded the statue of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Rawat said that we all are breathing in the free air due to the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. He said that everyone should take inspiration from the freedom fighters and work in the interests of the country. Rawat exhorted everyone present to work dedicatedly for making a new and strong Uttarakhand. The LoP Pritam Singh said that August 9 is a golden day in the history of India and on this date Mahatma Gandhi gave a call for English to quit India. He said that Gandhi also gave a slogan of ‘Do or Die’ which united the countrymen and frightened the British rulers. Former Minister Hira Singh Bisht, In- charge of Congress Sewa Dal, Amarjeet Singh, Vice President Surya Kant Dhasmana and others were present on the occasion.
