Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the priority of the State government is to conserve the culture and give recognition to Uttarakhand as per aspirations the people had for a separate State.

Congratulating the people of the State on the occasion of Igas festival and Budhi Deepawali on Thursday the CM said that Igas is an important festival of mountainous areas and it gives a message of love, passion and happiness. He said that the traditions conceptualised by our forefathers give a message in this age of science that both faith and nature are interrelated. He said that Uttarakhandis residing in different parts of the State and world celebrate Igas with fervour. The CM said that during his recent visits to London, Singapore and Dubai, the natives of Uttarakhand living there had told him that they celebrate Igas just like the festival of Deepawali. They also expressed happiness that the State government has declared a holiday on the occasion of Igas in Uttarakhand.

He said that the people of the State fought a long battle in an attempt to preserve the culture and identity for a separate State so that policies and planning as per the geographical conditions are made.  He said that a programme to celebrate Igas was organised at his residence in Dehradun but his priority is that the labourers stranded in the tunnel in Silkyara are safely evacuated.
