Person challaned after activists protest against religious activities sans permission

Members of Hindu organisations alleged that questionable religious activities were being carried out without permission in the Dhandera area of Civil Line Kotwali area in Roorkee on Sunday morning. As commotion grew, someone informed the police about the issue. The police personnel who reached the site on receiving the information somehow managed to bring the situation under control. The police also challaned a person.

It is pertinent to mention here that there was commotion in the Dhandera area a few months ago too due to allegedly questionable religious activities. The authorities had managed to bring the situation under control at that time. The situation got tense again on Sunday when members of Hindu organisations received information about a prayer meeting going on in a room. People related to Hindu organisations reached the site in question. Source state that the activists are of the opinion that such activities are being used for proselytisation. They alleged that the meet was being held again without permission.  Reaching the spot on being informed about the disturbance, the police managed to bring the situation under control. The police also took the person conducting the prayer meet with them to the police station. Stating that the police are investigating the matter, the Civil Line Kotwali in-charge Devendra Chauhan said that Neeraj Pastor had been challaned under section 151.
