Nainital returns to normalcy after disruption caused by snowfall

Sunday, 06 February 2022 | PNS | Nainital

People in Nainital breathed a sigh of relief after three-days of snowfall disrupted normal life. The weather cleared and people enjoyed the warmth of the sun for about three hours on Saturday. Earlier, the three-day spell of consistent snowfall saw disruption of power and water supply along with major traffic issues in the city. Though both the locals and tourists enjoyed views of snow covered peaks all around, the ground frost accumulated at night made the roads dangerously slippery for traffic. After the people enjoyed the sunlight for three hours on Saturday, the sky became cloudy again and the cold intensified. The police had barred tourists to Nainital at Kathgodam and Kaladhungi. For the past two days, tourists who wanted to return home from Nainital were being guided towards their destinations. On Saturday too the police did not allow tourists to enter Nainital in their vehicles. Tourist vehicles were diverted from Kathgodam via Bhimtal and Bhawali which also caused some inconvenience to the visitors. Meanwhile, taxi drivers reportedly exploited the situation and charged upto Rs 500 per person from travelers wanting to reach Nainital from Haldwani.
