With Christmas and New Year around the corner, tourists are thronging hill stations like Mussoorie and other places including Dehradun. In view of rise in Omicron positive cases in India, the locals are of the view that the celebrations should be held in observance of Covid appropriate behaviour.

Office goer Rupali Joshi said, “The people from other states should not be allowed for the purpose of partying. With so many active cases, we can never be too cautious or paranoid. Residents of Uttarakhand should try to celebrate at home with their families. If they do not want to celebrate at home then people should act responsibly according to the situation.”

College student Pradeep Gupta said, “There should be rules in cafes according to government guidelines. There should be a cap on number of people allowed at a time.” He also opined that limited number of visitors should be allowed in hill stations like Mussoorie to prevent large gatherings and rise in Covid cases.

Owner of a café in Mussoorie, Janhvi Joshi stated, “We are preparing well for Christmas and New Year celebrations. It is mandatory to wear masks while entering the cafes. Moreover, seating arrangements have been made to maintain social distancing.” She added that customers sans masks will not be served.

Shop owner Hardik Sharma said, “The cafes and restaurants should not only make the customers follow the rules but the staff should also follow the same. The waiters should wear masks and gloves all the time. We do not know what goes inside the kitchen- proper hygiene should be ensured there too.”
