10 lakh registered for free electricity – AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Colonel (Retd) Ajay Kothiyal has claimed that the free electricity registration scheme of the party is eliciting a huge response from the general public. He said that more than 10 lakh people have registered under the scheme launched by the party in 30 days.

Addressing the media persons here on Saturday he said that the huge response shows that the people of the state have endorsed the assurance on free electricity given by the AAP.

On July 11, Delhi chief minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal had made four promises to the people of the state. He had said that if elected to power in the year 2022, the AAP would provide 300 units of electricity free every month, would provide uninterrupted power, would waive off old bills and would provide free electricity to the farmers. Launching an attack on both BJP and Congress on free electricity, Col Kothiyal said that both these parties are deceiving the people of the state. “On one day the BJP makes a promise to provide 100 units free every month but backtracks the next day. Similarly the Congress leaders are talking about 100 or 200 units free every month but they don’t have a clear stand,’’ he said.

Challenging both the BJP and Congress party for an open debate on free electricity Kothiyal said that if both these parties are honest then they should come forward and accept the challenge of the debate.

Kothiyal asserted that free electricity is the right of the people of Uttarakhand and not a charity. “The power projects set up on the rivers of Uttarakhand are providing electricity to the whole country and in such cases they should not get the right of free electricity? The people are asking – if people of Delhi can get free electricity then why this scheme cannot be implemented in Uttarakhand,’’ he asked.
