The Dehradun district administration will demolish religious structures encroaching on public space in the city if those managing such structures fail to remove the encroachments on their own by Wednesday evening. In the recent anti-encroachment drive, the district administration in association with the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) removed various encroachments which were marked by the authorities in the city. After the removal of illegal residential and commercial encroachments, the administration is planning to remove the illegal religious structures in Dehradun city. As per the officials, there are about 36 illegal religious structures in the city and in a recent meeting, the administration has asked the representatives of these bodies to remove their encroachments by this Wednesday. “About 36 religious structures constructed on the encroached lands were marked by the administration. Out of these some establishments have already been removed by the management of these religious sites but many still remain to be removed. We have given the time to remove these structures by Wednesday evening. If the administration finds any religious structure encroaching in the city after the said day, the administration will be compelled to demolish these structures on its own,” said the city magistrate Kusum Chauhan. Regarding the removal of the encroachments in Tyagi Road area, the officials stated that the administration has permitted the locals to remove the encroachments by Thursday and so far, many encroachments remain to be removed in that area. If any encroachments are found in the area after Thursday, the authorities will demolish them, added the officials.
