Joshi reviews implementation of NREGA & other  schemes

In latest news from Dehradun, the State rural development minister Ganesh Joshi chaired a meeting that reviewed the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, monitored the progress of a host of welfare schemes and the income/expenditure of several departments. Aside from the senior officers, some members of the non-government organisations and those nominated by the government participated in the meeting.  The minister stressed on such meetings being held every three months.  He also directed all the chief development officers to build a robust mechanism of inter-departmental co-ordination to accelerate the pace of scheme implementation. Besides, he directed the officers concerned to ensure that tree plantation programmes are taken up on a large scale and tanks are set up to conserve water. In course of the meeting, secretary, rural development Radhika Jha suggested the activisation of social auditing on the basis of roster. The  nominated members suggested hike in the wages paid under the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA responding to which Joshi said that the government would decide on the matter after comparing rates being paid in other states. Saying that only a section reaps benefit from the welfare schemes while the mass of the people remain unbenefited in blocks, the minister directed the officers to see to it that all the people are brought under the developmental umbrella.
