Electricity tariff may be hiked by 30 per cent from April

In latest news from Dehradun, as per the proposals sent to the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) by the three power corporations-UPCL, UJBNL and PTCUL, the electricity tariff may be hiked by 30 per cent for the consumers compared to last year to be effective from April 1.  However, the regulatory commission will take the final call on the tariff hike proposals. The commission sources said that they would first write to the corporations to correct certain things to be followed by public hearing after which the new rates would be firmed up.  UPCL said in the proposal that with the subsidy amount standing at Rs 440 crore, if the government decides to pay this amount as subsidy to UPCL then there will be 23 per cent and if not, the tariff will be hiked by 27 per cent. UJVNL proposed 23 per cent tariff hike as compared to last year while PTCUL proposed tariff hike to the tune of 48 per cent compared to last year.
