The Bharatiya Janata Party has questioned the purpose behind the two-month Padyatra planned by the Congress while opining that it is fully politically motivated and aimed at celebrating the temporary relief granted by the Supreme Court to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi. This political rally has nothing to do with the common public or the burning issues of the citizens, the BJP averred.

The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that the political rallies of the Congress are now aimed at political gains rather than addressing public issues. It is taking out rallies on one issue every other month and this why it is difficult to ascertain when a rally starts and when it ends. Talking to the media regarding the statements made by Congress leaders on the preparations for the Padyatra, Bhatt said that the Congress has lost the trust of the people of Uttarakhand which is why the people do not take it seriously anymore. This is the reason why the general public doesn’t participate in the political programmes of the Congress. The party leaders are unable to digest this fact which is why they often tend to vent out their frustration on the public, he said. The BJP State president further said, “The issues on which the Congress plans to protest in its Padyatra are the ones on which the government has taken decisive action and the public has also appreciated these decisions. Those involved in facilitating malpractices during competitive exams are in jail and the State government has introduced a strict anti-copying law which is also being appreciated by other States. The Ankita Bhandari murder case is in court and the investigation agencies have submitted their report. The accused were arrested and the investigation procedure was conducted as per the legal process with the matter now sub judice. However, the Congress is trying to seek a political opportunity even in this unfortunate incident.”

Bhatt further said that the Congress has already tried to incite the youths on the issue of the Agnipath scheme but its efforts were not successful. This scheme was implemented after long and detailed deliberations among defence experts of the nation, he said.  Referring to Joshimath, he said that the rehabilitation scheme made for the disaster affected there is the best scheme made so far. The policy for compensation and relief has been made based on the opinion of the common people. The Congress is trying to impose its mistakes on the government, alleged Bhatt.
