The State Health department will soon get 116 community health officers (CHOs). These officers would be deployed in the wellness centres of the department. The HNB Uttarakhand medical university has submitted a list of 116 selected CHOs to the State Health department. In a statement the Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the priority of the state government is to ensure that the health facilities are provided to the last person. He said that the State government has taken a target to fill all the posts of the CHOs in the wellness centres.

The minister said that there are a total of 1,683 posts of CHOs in the wellness centres and in December last year 1,399 CHOs were appointed. These centres now have 205 vacant posts. Rawat said that the medical university had recently held a second phase of the counselling after which  it had submitted a list of 166 CHOs.  He said that these officers would be given appointment letters soon and would be deployed in the wellness centres in different districts of the State.

Apart from health checkups of the local people, the CHOs would create awareness towards health. The CHOs would visit the villages and set up ‘ Health Chaupals’ there to create awareness in the people. These officers would work in coordination with the Asha workers, ANMs and Village Pradhans for ensuring that the health schemes of the government reach the common man.
