The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) will approach the state government to include skill development training programmes in the syllabus of school students as a part of their education. The SCPCR chairperson Geeta Khanna said this during a Press conference here on Friday. She said that the commission plans to provide the facilities of self defence, entertainment and regular counselling to children across the state along with education for their overall development.

She said that the commission will continue the work on sensitive issues like preventing substance abuse and beggary among children besides working for their rehabilitation. She said that such children will also be given vocational training to make their future better than their present. She said that SCPCR will also write to the chief minister and the respective departments to work on providing skill development training to students in schools apart from the textbook knowledge to make them more capable of earning their livelihood once they grow up. The commission will also discuss marking child-friendly space in all public places across the state, said Khanna.

Besides this, the commission will also make efforts on improving the education quality and ambiance of government schools in order to get more parents to admit their children there rather than private schools, added Khanna. The under secretary Roshni Sati and members of the commission Vinod Kaparwan and Deepak Gulati were also present in the conference.
