Doon police arrest three men for illegal betting on IPL

Accused had wagered about Rs 2 crore this season

Dehradun police arrested three men for illegal online betting on the ongoing cricket matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The accused have allegedly wagered about Rs two crore in the current season of IPL which started on March 31, said the superintendent of police (city) Sarita Dobhal in a Press conference here on Thursday. She said that the Dehradun senior superintendent of police, Daleep Singh Kunwar received information about some people placing illegal bets on IPL in a house situated in D Block of Saraswati Vihar on Wednesday.

A joint team of police station in-charges of Nehru Colony police station and Dalanwala police station was formed as per the orders of the SSP to conduct a raid in the said house. The team found three men there who were allegedly placing bets by being in touch with other people through several mobile phones. The police arrested them and recovered several ATM cards, Rs 24,000 cash and other materials they used to place bets, said Dobhal. 

The accused have been identified as Yogesh Kumar, a resident of Nehru Colony and Nitin Singh and Bablu- both of whom belong to Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. Dobhal said that the accused have confessed of placing bets of nearly three crores in this IPL season since March 31. They also keep a register and diary to keep a record of the people who place bets. They use UPI payment methods to receive money for bets as well as to send money after winning them, said Dobhal.
