A sum of Rs 18.75 lakh has been allegedly withdrawn fraudulently from the account of a noted non-governmental organisation in Dehradun. The secretary of Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS) has alleged that some of the officials of the bank where the organisation has its account may be involved in this fraud.

As per the FIR lodged on the basis of the complaint by SPECS secretary Brijmohan Sharma, the society has its service bank account with the Patelnagar branch of Bank of Baroda. On May 27, he learnt that Rs 18.75 lakh had been withdrawn from the SPECS account. He alleged that some bank officials seem to be involved in the case. The withdrawal was done through forged cheque as the original cheque book is in safe possession of SPECS.  The amount was withdrawn through RTGS by presenting a forged cheque. The amount withdrawn was to be utilised for a project and was provided by UCOST and National Mission of Himalayan Studies. Due to the forgery, the payment of salaries of those engaged in the project has been affected. SPECS has also written to the additional director general of police seeking his intervention.
