The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the BJP government of Uttarakhand is engaged in vendetta politics against the elected Panchayat representatives of Congress party. He said that the State government is bent on disintegrating the Panchayati Raj system in Uttarakhand. In a letter written to the Governor of the State, Mahara said that the State government is using every means to remove the elected representatives of Panchayats and for it is registering false cases on them.

He said that the BJP government is playing vendetta politics ever since it assumed office and the representatives of the opposition parties are being harassed. Mahara said that recent action against the former Jila Panchayat president of Bageshwar Harish Singh Ethani is an example of how the elected and former Panchayat representatives are being harassed at the behest of the ruling party. He added that the President of the district panchayat of Chamoli Rajni Bhandari, president of district panchayat of Uttarkashi Deepak Bijalwan, Poonam Tiwari of Nagar Palika Parishad Srinagar and Block Pramukh R S Namdhari were removed in undemocratic manner from their positions in the past.

The PCC president said that such vendetta politics is not a good sign for healthy democracy and the Panchayati Raj system. He added that the intervention of the BJP government is affecting the development works in the rural areas of the State. Mahara said that being a guardian of constitution in the State the governor should intervene in the issue
