Additional teams deployed in Kumaon region

Considering the recent spread of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in the hilly areas of Kumaon division, the animal husbandry department has rushed additional teams from Garhwal region to the affected areas there. The State has so far registered nearly 3,131 cases of LSD which is a vector-borne infection that affects bovines. The minister,  animal husbandry department, Saurabh Bahuguna stated this in a Press conference here on Wednesday. He said that out of 3,131 infected bovines, 1,669 cattle have recovered and 32 died so far. “The current recovery rate and death rate in the State is 53.03 per cent and 1.03 per cent respectively. The department has administered over 7.42 lakh vaccination doses to bovines till now against the disease across the State. Besides this, over 3.23 lakh vaccination doses are currently available to the department,” said the minister. He said that since the numbers of LSD cases are extremely higher in the Kumaon region than Garhwal, additional teams from the latter have been deployed in Kumaon. The most affected districts from LSD infection include Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat and Pithoragarh, added Bahuguna.

He further said that the department has also issued two toll free numbers 1962 and 18001208862 through which people can contact the respective official concerned regarding the LSD case.
