The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that there is a need to break the old and deep rooted conspiracy of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliate organisations against the Congress party. He was addressing the 85th plenary session of the Indian National Congress (INC) at Raipur, Chhattisgarh on Saturday.

The PCC president said that the RSS and its affiliate organisations were against the Congress in the year 1942 when it was fighting with the British and had given a clarion call of ‘Quit India’. He averred that during the tenure of Atal Bihari Vajpayee as Prime Minister an attempt was made to break the economic backbone of the poor and backward sections of the society who were traditional supporters of the Congress party. Mahara said that the Vajpayee government abolished the grade of class-IV employees. It also discontinued the old pension scheme (OPS) to hurt the employees who were the natural voters of the Congress party.

Launching an attack on the Narendra Modi government, the PCC president said that when Rajiv Gandhi was the PM of the country the Atal Bihari Vajpayee was sent to foreign for his treatment and for this Vajpayee was made leader of a delegation which is in sharp contrast to present government. He said that the manner in which the Congress leader Pawan Khera was deboarded from the plane when he was going to Raipur to attend the plenary session of INC shows the despotic nature of the present regime. He said that the government conducted raids of the Enforcement Directorate in Raipur just ahead of the convention of the Congress party.
