CM reviews ceremonial parade of Home Guards, Civil Defence

New platoons of women Home Guards to be raised in 11 districts of the State

 Chief minister Puskhar Singh Dhami participated in the foundation day programme of Home Guards and Civil Defence at Nanoorkheda on Tuesday and reviewed the ceremonial parade on the occasion. He also launched the Pahal app meant for solving issues related to mental health and other problems of Jawans of home guards. Speaking on the occasion, the CM announced that new platoons of the women home guards would be raised in the districts of Udham Singh Nagar, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Uttarkashi and Tehri districts. He also announced that a sum of Rs 180 per day would be paid to the home guards as food allowance when deployed in inter district duty for election and for the ceremonial parade. He also announced that the honorarium of the non salaried platoon commander would be increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per month while the honorarium of assistant company commander would now be Rs 2,000 and that of company commander would be Rs 2,500 per month.
Dhami said that the home guards and the civil defence personnel play an important role in maintaining law and order and the manner in which they control traffic in extremes of weather is appreciable. He also lauded the role of home guards during the pandemic of Covid-19. Dhami said that the State government is committed to provide full cooperation to the home guards.  He said that 10,000 cartridges have been purchased for giving  Self Loading Rifle (SLR) training to the home guards and the State government has given its approval to purchase small weapons such as pistols for them.

 He said that the project ‘park well’ launched this year with an objective to make the traffic better is yielding good results. The CM said approval has been given for complete use of the recurring deposits of the department to dispose of the pending cases of payment from the welfare fund. He said that the home guards are being given the dearness allowance (DA) and dress washing allowance from June 2022 and July 2022 respectively. The CM said that the State government has made a provision of Rs 101 crore in the supplementary budget for payment of arrears prior to year 2017. The CM expressed hope that the employees and officers of home guard and civil defence would continue to provide their valuable service in maintaining law and order and maintenance of peace.

The CM handed over a cheque of Rs two lakh to the widow of home guard Tilak Raj Maurya who died during duty. He also handed over appreciation certificates to the home guard and civil defence personnel for appreciable service.   The mayor of Dehradun Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, mayor of Rishikesh Anita Mamgain, MLAs Umesh Sharma Kau, Khajan Das and Pramod Nainwal, director general police (DGP) Ashok Kumar, commandant general of home guards and civil defence Kewal Khurana, deputy commandant general Amitabh Srivastava and others were also present on the occasion.
