FDA alert on food safety standards on Char Dham Yatra routes

The hotels, restaurants and shops on the Char Dham Yatra will remain under the scanner of the Food Safety and Drugs Administration (FDA) department during the Char Dham Yatra. Severe punitive action will be taken against the shopkeepers and hotel owners for violation of food safety norms.

The FDA commissioner R Rajesh Kumar said that all the hotel owners, restaurants and shopkeepers on Yatra route have been asked to strictly adhere to food safety standards. He said that the food businessmen will display food safety standards in their establishments and keep proper hygiene and sanitation. Sale of stale food and uncovered food items is prohibited. The officers of the department have been directed to ensure that hotel and restaurant owners conduct regular health check-ups of their employees. 

Kumar informed that the food safety laboratory, Rudrapur has been asked to check the food samples collected on Yatra route on priority. The reports will be provided by the lab on a weekly basis and based on the report action on culprits will be taken. 

The FDA has made deputy commissioner of Garhwal, RS Rawat the nodal officer of the Char Dham Yatra. He will inspect the Yatra route and check establishments on Food Safety and Standards Act 2006. Rawat will send reports to FDA headquarters.

Kymar said that action on the employees of the FDA will be taken for showing laxity in works during the Yatra.
