Dehradun police have held a class XII student Sonia Pandit along with her friend Amarpal Prasad for perpetrating burglary at her tutor’s house in Nehru Colony area on April 20. The superintendent of police, city, Sarita Dobhal said that the complainant Virendra Kumar lodged a written complaint on Wednesday that he and his family had gone to Roorkee to attend a wedding on April 20 but when they returned home after five days, they found out that the lock of the house was broken and expensive jewellery and items were stolen from their cupboard.

The police started investigation by analysing CCTV footage of the nearby area and activated informers’ network on the basis of which, both accused Sonia (21) and Amarpal (23) were arrested on Wednesday around 10:50 PM near Chakshah Nagar ground. The police have also recovered all stolen jewellery and items from under the bushes near the ground too, said Dobhal.

“The accused said during the questioning that the complainant’s wife is her tutor who told her that her family is going to attend a wedding in Roorkee for a few days. Sonia shared this information with her friend Amarpal and planned to loot her house. They both broke into the house on April 21 and stole all jewellery, cash and other valuables from the cupboard. They hid the stolen items under the bushes near Chakshah Nagar ground and subsequently went to Haridwar with the stolen cash for a night and returned to their homes the next day. They were planning to sell the hidden jewellery but the police arrested them on Wednesday night,” said the SP.  She said that the police will present both before the court soon.
