In a major development regarding the disproportionate asset allegation involving the Dehardun mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has taken cognizance of the matter and asked the State chief secretary to send a report on it. It has also ordered the report to be made public on the portal. Notably, the RTI activist and advocate Vikesh Negi had alleged based on the documents he had collected that the mayor has amassed assets disproportionate to his income by misusing his post. The mayor, however, denied the allegation outright and said that he had acquired the property through honest means. Negi sent all the documents to the PMO and lodged a corruption complaint against the mayor.

Negi complained that after Gama became the mayor, he had bought 11 properties for Rs 5 crore whose market value is more than Rs 20 crore. He said he had misused his post to acquire the properties cheap. While lodging complaint with the vigilance, he demanded a high-level probe into the matter.
