MCD issues order to resolve garbage disposal matter in 48 hours following HC order

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has directed the officials of the health section to resolve the garbage disposal associated issues within 48 hours of receiving a complaint as per the recent order of Uttarakhand High Court.
The court had recently stated while hearing of a PIL seeking a ban on single-use plastic that no serious work is being done on the ground on solid waste disposal in the State and officials concerned are busy only in completing paperwork. A bench of the High Court comprising chief justice Vipin Sanghi and justice RC Khulbe has also issued an email id- solidwastecomplaint@uk.gov.in, on which citizens can register garbage-related complaints. The court has also ordered the commissioners of Garhwal and Kumaon divisions to ensure that steps are being taken by respective municipal bodies to resolve complaints within 48 hours. They have also been ordered to conduct ground surveys at town by town and village by village level in association with district magistrates of all 13 districts to ensure solid waste management is being done efficiently.
The court has also directed both commissioners to submit compliance affidavits before the next date of the hearing, November 24. If failed, they will have to remain present in court to explain their non-compliance with HC directions. The officials informed that the urban development directorate (UDD) has already formed a committee to check and monitor solid waste management arrangements in municipal bodies. Being the biggest municipal body of the State, the MCD has already formed a grievance cell to redress the complaints and has nominated all sanitation inspectors as members. The chief municipal health officer of Dehradun, Dr Avinash Khanna has issued an order to sanitation inspectors to resolve all complaints within 48 hours as per the HC order.
