Harish Rawat to meet Cong president Sonia Gandhi

The meeting fuels speculation that the veteran leader could be assigned key role in U’khand

The proposed meeting of former chief minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat with Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on Saturday has heated up the political environment of Uttarakhand. It is learnt that Rawat would discuss the political situation of Uttarakhand, Punjab and the ongoing farmer agitation in the meeting with the party high command in Delhi. Prior to the meeting and his departure to Delhi, Rawat got himself tested for Covid-19 and was found negative for the disease. Incidentally while the Congress stalwart was found negative the Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat was found infected with Covid-19 on the same day. The speculation making rounds in the Dehradun is that Harish Rawat could be assigned some important assignment in Uttarakhand. Assembly elections are scheduled in Uttarakhand in the early part of 2022 and it is speculated that the grand old party can bring Rawat at centre stage for the crucial battle. The Uttarakhand Congress is divided sharply into the factions headed by Harish Rawat  and combined faction led Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Indira Hridayesh. In recent times the leaders belonging to these factions had openly attacked each other on the issues of return of rebels into the party and the responsibility of the losing the Tharali bye election. In an interesting development on Friday, the PCC President Pritam Singh attended the Malta party thrown by Harish Rawat at his residence. It is pertinent to mention here that Harish Rawat is known to throw parties of local delicacies and the PCC president and leaders of his camp used to be conspicuous with their absence from most of such parties.

The party was attended by the senior Congress leaders Hira Singh Bisht,  Dinesh Agarwal, Ganesh Godiyal, Kedarnath MLA Manoj Rawat, Jot Singh Bisht, Rajkumar and other Congress leaders.
