U’khand govt hikes DA of employees by four per cent

 In an attempt to win over the employees ahead of the Lok Sabha elections the Uttarakhand government has accepted their demand of increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA) by four per cent. The employees and pensioners will now get 50 per cent DA of their basic salary.  The decision will benefit about two lakh employees and 1.25 lakh pensioners of the State government. 

The revised DA would be applicable from January 1 this year. The employees would receive the arrear of the increased salary for the period of January 01 to February 29 ,2024 in cash while from March the increased DA will be given with the salary.  The order for increase in the DA of the employees and pensioners was released by the secretary Dilip Jawalkar on Thursday after the approval by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

 The order would be applicable to all employees of the State government, aided teaching institutes, workers of the local bodies and the recipients of the University Grants Commission (UGC) scales. However the order will not be applicable to the judges of High Court (HC), Chairman and Members of Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UkPSC), Civil/Family Pensioners of local bodies and Public Undertaking Corporations in respect of whom separate orders will have to be issued by respective departments. 

 The increase in the DA would put an additional burden of about Rs 550 crore on the State exchequer. The salaries of the employees would witness an increase of Rs 1000 to Rs 8,000 after the increase in DA.
