Astronomers and scientists of the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) have hailed the success of the Aditya-L1, India’s first solar observatory, which has reached its final orbit. The scientists have said that this shows that the nation’s future in space technology and science is promising, adding that the success of Aditya-L1 is a moment of pride for all Indians.

ARIES director Dipankar Banerjee said that it has taken a long time to achieve this dream of solar scientists but the outcome is very satisfying. The success of Aditya-L1 has boosted the morale of Indian scientists. Now they are going to start working on preparations for the future and will strive to assist in future plans in the field of astronomy, he said.

Atmospheric scientist Narendra Singh said that space weather is a vast sphere and the Aditya-L1 mission will play a very important role in the study of space weather. This will be beneficial not only for India but for the whole world, he said. Former officiating director of ARIES, Wahab Uddin said that the success of the Aditya mission brings immense happiness. The nation will now become self reliant in the study of the sun while the solar scientists of other nations will also rely on India.

Other scientists including Snehlata, Shashibhushan Pande and BB Sanwal termed this a historic moment, adding that the nation has been reaching new heights in astronomy in the past 10 years. This shows that the nation’s dependence on other nations in astronomy is decreasing with the nation progressing on the path of self reliance. Astronomy will also help in strengthening the economic foundation of the nation in the coming years.
