Bill passed for 4% horizontal reservation for sportspersons

The Sports minister Rekha Arya informed that a bill for four per cent reservation in government jobs for sportspersons has been passed in the Assembly session. Arya informed that the bill introduced in the Assembly for the benefit of players aims to prevent the migration of talented players for employment by providing four per cent reservation in government jobs. Additionally, the State government plans to provide direct jobs to international medal winners from Uttarakhand with grade pay of Rs 5,400 and other benefits. Arya highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting sports and supporting athletes, ensuring that medal winners receive the necessary encouragement and opportunities. The State is on track to become the second in the nation to offer direct job opportunities to medal-winning athletes. This initiative is being spearheaded under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, she said. Arya further averred that the State government is committed to the welfare of athletes by providing various facilities including student scholarship schemes, job placements and improving sports infrastructure.
