Workshop on neonatal transport held at Himalayan hospital

 A workshop on neonatal transport was organised at the Himalayan hospital, Jolly Grant on Saturday. The programme was organised under the joint aegis of departments of neonatology and paediatrics of the hospital. The event was attended by a total of 52 participants and 15 faculty members. 

 Inaugurating the programme, the director general academic development, Dr Vijendra Chauhan said that neonatal transport is an important area and the gains from the workshop will help neonatal survival. 

 The principal and dean, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, congratulated the organising team and participants for being part of an effort to improve the neonatal care in the state of Uttarakhand. The guest of honour Dr Prakash Keshaviah underlined the fact that a public-private partnership will immensely help building infrastructure for neonatal transport.

A book on neonatal transport was also released during the programme. The book contains relevant information for improving neonatal transport including concepts and use of artificial intelligence and telemedicine. Participants learnt from basics to advanced aspects of neonatal transport through talks delivered by Dr Anil Rawat, Dr Sanober Wasim, Dr Saikat Patra, Dr Chinmay Chetan and Dr Rakesh Kumar. 

The sessions were moderated by Dr Girish Gupta and Dr Ashish Simalti. 

Hands-on training on equipment, monitoring, difficult scenarios and communication skills required for neonatal transport was also conducted on the occasion. The participants also visited the advanced neonatal transport ambulance and learnt how to replicate and modify a normal ambulance to one suited for neonatal transport. The event was patronised by the Chancellor of the Swami Ram Himalayan University (SRHU) Vijay Dhasmana and coordinated by Dr Girish Gupta.
