Workers vacate Tapovan barrage site after rise in water level

Wednesday, 16 March 2022 | PNS | Joshimath

Rise in the level of water in the Dhauli river on Tuesday caused panic at the Tapovan barrage site. The company sprung into action and got the site vacated. It will be recalled that the NTPC company has become more alert since the disaster which struck last year during February following a flash flood in the Rishiganga river. The company has installed an alarm system on the Dhauli river. The alarm is sounded whenever the level of water rises in the Dhauli river. On Tuesday morning at about 6:30 AM, the alarm was sounded when the level of water in the river increased swiftly. The workers at the Tapovan barrage site became alert after the alarm was sounded. The company sent all the workers and machines to a safer location. According to sources, the rising temperatures these days in the mountainous regions also results in melting of glaciers which results in rise in the level of water in rivers.
