The winter session of Uttarakhand assembly which was earlier scheduled to be held at Bharadisain, Gairsain in Chamoli district could now be held in Dehradun. Though the state government is yet to take a final decision on the place and date of the session the speaker Prem Chand Agarwal hinted on Friday that the session could be held on December 9 and 10 in Dehradun. Talking to the media persons at the sidelines of a programme organised on the occasion of the Constitution Day at Prakash Pant auditorium in assembly building here, Agarwal said that he discussed the issue with the parliamentary affairs minister Banshi Dhar Bhagat and the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Pritam Singh on Thursday and both of them were inclined to hold session in Dehradun.

He said that the assembly secretariat was prepared to hold the session in Gairsain and now if the government decides necessary preparations would be made in Dehradun to conduct the session smoothly. The speaker added that since the country is celebrating 75th year of Independence this year as ‘ Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, he is in favour of organising a special sitting during the winter session.

It is worth mentioning here that the Pushkar Singh Dhami government had earlier decided to hold the winter session in Gairsain on November 29 and 30 but later the decision was cancelled by the state. After this there was a possibility of holding the session in Gairsain on December 8 and 9.
