Weather to take a turn today, squall warning issued for state

The State is likely to get some relief from the heat today with light to moderate rainfall/thunderstorm forecast in many places across the state. However, the State meteorological centre has also issued a warning about the likelihood of thunderstorm accompanied with hail/lightning occurring at isolated places. Further, squalls with winds with speeds reaching upto 60-70 kilometres per hour gusting upto 80 kilometres per hour are also likely to occur at isolated places especially in the plains.

According to the weather forecast, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at many places in the mountainous regions and at a few places in the plains today. Further, the surface winds are likely to be strong and gusty during the day time. The provisional state capital Dehradun is likely to experience partly to generally cloudy sky. Rain/thunderstorm accompanied with squall (60- 70 kmph) is also likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 36 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Thursday. It is pertinent to mention here that while the maximum temperatures in various parts of the state have been about five degrees Celsius above normal, the rains forecast on Thursday and Friday are expected the bring the maximum temperatures down to normal.

Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the state on Wednesday were 38.6 degrees Celsius and 20.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 38.8 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 27.5 degrees Celsius and 13.7 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 27.6 degrees Celsius and 14.4 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri.
