The protectors of democracy should remain alert, the Congress is alert- Harish Rawat

The arrival of the national general secretary of BJP Kailash Vijayvargiya and statement of the BJP MLA from Badrinath, Mahendra Bhatt that many candidates of other parties are in touch with BJP has set the alarm bells ringing for the Congress party in Uttarakhand. The Former chief minister and head of the campaign committee of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat took to the social media to express his apprehension on Monday. He said that the public acceptance by a BJP MLA in which he has claimed that contact with many of the candidates who are awaiting victory has been established is a big warning for democracy. It is the proclamation of defection even before the counting of votes, he said. Rawat added that another warning is the arrival of a BJP leader who has mastered the art of affecting defections to perfection. He said that this master of defections had tried his hand in Bengal and Bihar without success. Rawat said that this leader got emboldened after doing horse trading in Uttarakhand in the year 2016. “The protectors of democracy should remain alert, the Congress party is alert,’’ he wrote on his Facebook wall.
Badrinath MLA Bhatt created a flutter on Sunday by claiming that candidates of other parties are in touch with BJP and when required they would be inducted into the party. A speculation is making rounds in the political circles that the BJP would make every possible effort to form its government with the help of independents and others even if it falls short of majority mark in the 70 member Uttarakhand assembly.
It is learnt that the Congress party has asked all its leaders to remain alert on possible attempts by the BJP to effect defection in the party. The BJP leadership in Uttarakhand is said to be working on three plans to tackle different situations arising after the verdict of the people is declared on March 10. The Congress leaders are constantly reminding that those who took part in the famous coup of 2016 were shabbily treated by the BJP. Senior leaders of the party and the state in charge of the Uttarakhand Congress Devendra Yadav are expected to camp in Dehradun from Tuesday to monitor the situation.
Incidentally Vijayvargiya who is camping in Dehradun is said to be the mastermind behind the coup in the floor of the state assembly in the year 2016 when nine MLAs of Congress party revolted against the then government of Congress led by Harish Rawat.
