The Dehradun police have registered first information report (FIRs) of both the parties concerned in the case in which cabinet Minister Prem Chand Agrawal along with his security personnel and staff is seen thrashing a local youth on a crowded road in Rishikesh on Tuesday. The station house officer of Kotwali police station, Rishikesh has been appointed as the investigating officer (IO) to probe the case, said the senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar.

He said that two men named Surendra Singh Negi and Dhirendra Singh Prajapati are accused in the case on the basis of the FIR registered by the minister’s personal security officer Vinod Rana. Surendra Singh Negi has also filed FIR against Agrawal and Rana along with other five men, said Kunwar. He said that the IO  has been directed to conduct an impartial investigation on the basis of available evidence and facts to ensure appropriate action can be taken accordingly. Some people also raised concerns that the name of the cabinet minister was allegedly not mentioned in the FIR registered against him.

Speaking on the issue, Kunwar said, “The police have filed FIR against every accused and has mentioned their names in the police record as per the complainant including the name of the cabinet minister. People should refrain from spreading such rumours regarding the case. Law is equal for all and police will take appropriate action as per the investigation.” He said that all security officers involved in the security of VIPs have also been directed to not get involved in any physical altercation unnecessarily. The SSP also said that various rumours are being spread on digital platforms regarding the case that can potentially disturb law and order. The police will take action against those who will be found to be responsible for spreading such rumours, added Kunwar.
